Pedal, Pedal, Pedal

PEDAL, PEDAL, PEDAL

5 nights, 6 days

Pittsburgh:  This first evening you will lodge at the Courtyard by Marriott/Downtown, the Springhill Suites/Southside or the Courtyard by Marriott at the Waterfront…your choice; your experience…dining, shopping and entertainment on your own.

Pittsburgh, PA to Ohiopyle, PA (mileage 77 Pittsburgh, 73 Southside, 68 Waterfront): Breakfast at your hotel; start with a tour of the “historic pump house” at the trailhead; a Steel Heritage guide will pedal with you through the most industrialized part of the trail featuring the history of Pittsburgh Steel to Little Boston; stop at the Trailside in West Newton for lunch; tonight you will lodge at the Yough Plaza Motel in Ohiopyle; clean and comfortable, an Ohiopyle tradition; dinner will be at The Falls City Pub.

Ohiopyle, PA to Cumberland, MD (70 miles – of which 25 miles an effortless downhill):  Breakfast  will be at Yough Plaza Motel’s Café (it’s a couple blocks from the motel); lunch  will be at the town of Rockwood at the Rockwood Mill Shoppes; this is 25 miles into your trip so enjoy lunch but please have some snacks packed for the rest of your day; tonight you lodge at our B&B (The Inn on Decatur); dine at my favorite, Ristorante Ottaviani’s.

Cumberland, MD to Hancock, MD (60 miles):  Breakfast will be at my B&B, The Inn on Decatur; I will pack for you my “Hit the Trails” lunch; tonight lodging will be at the 1828 Trail Inn in Hancock; dinner will be at Weaver’s, home-style cooking and great pies.

Hancock, MD to Shepherdstown, WV (48 miles):  Darlene will have breakfast for you and will send you on your way with a picnic lunch; tonight you will lodge at the world class Bavarian Inn overlooking the Potomac River; tonight enjoy dining on your own on property at the Bavarian Inn or at one of the many great restaurants in Shepherdstown; we can make lots of suggestions.

Shepherdstown, WV to Washington, DC (70 miles):  Breakfast at the Bavarian Inn; we highly recommend an early start so that you can stop and visit Harper’s Ferry, just 12 trail miles into your journey; stop for lunch in the railroad town of Brunswick at the very popular Beans In The Belfry; your journey ends in Georgetown; the 0 mile marker is by the Thompson Boat House.
